Montreal – Day 2 of the 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sports swimming championships saw Cameron Bailey add a bronze medal to the silver medal he won on opening day.
The McMaster swimming superstar, this year’s Ontario University Athletics Swimmer of the Year, finished third in the 400m freestyle with a time of 3:52.49, behind OUA counterparts from Toronto and Western on Friday (Feb.24) at the University of Montreal.
Second-year Ben Stubbs also had a favourable day for McMaster. Missing the podium by less than 0.5 seconds, the Marauder took fourth place in the 200m fly with a time of 2:01.71.
Veteran Matt Vogelzang made another A Finals for the Marauders. In the 50m fly, the Marauder took seventh with a time of 24.87. The McMaster men’s swim team also had two eighth place finishes. Ian Bletcha made the A Finals of the 200m breaststroke and finished it in 2:16.73, 0.05 seconds behind the No. 7 spot. The men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team, made up of Bailey, Stubbs, Michael MacDonald and Moustafa Ghoneim, finished eighth as well.
For the women’s team, Sarah Taylor was the best finisher, taking a fifth place finish in the 50m fly with a time of 27.70. The third-year also had an eighth place finish in the 50m freestyle, just 0.01 seconds from seventh place.
McMaster’s 4x200m women’s freestyle relay team also had an eighth place finish. The team, made up of Taylor, Louisa Chan, Jessica MacKenzie and Sara Thompson, finished the race in 8:27.59.
