Blueliner gets chance with Bulldogs


Trevor Hendrikx has been signed to a Professional Try-Out contract by the Hamilton Bulldogs. The defenceman will be available for Friday’s (March 9) Pink in the Rink game against the Toronto Marlies at Copps Coliseum.

Hendrikx, 26, has played 45 games with the Central Hockey League’s Allen Americans, recording 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) and 136 penalty minutes, displaying a plus-7 rating.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenceman previously played for the East Coast Hockey League’s Johnstown Chiefs, leading the team in points by a blueliner with 25 (6 goals, 19 assists) and ranking seventh in the league for penalty minutes with 164 in 2009-10. The native of Russell, ON played his junior hockey with the Ontario Hockey League’s Peterborough Petes from 2001-06, leading the team in points and goals by a defencemen for consecutive seasons in 2004-05 with 56 points (9 goals, 47 assists) and 2005-06 with 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists).

Friday’s games starts at 7:30 p.m. Fans are requested to wear pink-coloured clothing to celebrate the accomplishments of women in sport.
