Mountaineers steal way to even record

Sandy Toole’s Mohawk Mountaineers gave up four points in the first end, but then battled back for an 11-7 victory over Grande Prairie Regional College of Alberta Wednesday (March 21) to even their mark at 1-1 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association 2012 Curling Invitational Championship in Peterborough.

After absorbing a 10-2 defeat at the hands of London Fanshawe in the early morning draw it looked like Mohawk might be heading to another big defeat when Grand Prairie jumped in front so quickly. The Mountaineers, however, scored two in the second end, stole one in the third, three in the fourth and stole another single in the fifth end en route to an 11-7 decision.

The Mohawk foursome resumes play Thursday at noon against the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). At 4:30 p.m. they’ll meet Seneca and complete day two against Sault College four hours later.

The event continues until Saturday.
