Frank Dancevic lost his second round match on Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, a combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA Premier event.
The 27-year-old player from Niagara Falls, who won the Dallas Challenger last week and played his way through qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw, had his 10 match win streak snapped by the world’s No. 8 ranked Mardy Fish. The American posted a 6-3, 7-6(1) victory to advance to the third round. Dancevic lost his serve once in the opening set to give Fish the early lead.
Dancevic jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second frame, but was unable to keep his break advantage and found himself in a tiebreak which Fish dominated, winning seven of the eight points played.
Meanwhile, fellow Daniel Nestor of Toronto and Max Mirnyi of Belarus, seeded second in the doubles draw, won their opening match 6-3, 7-6(4) over Eric Butorac and Bruno Soares.
In third round action on Sunday in Key Biscayne, Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) will take world No. 4 Andy Murray of Great Britain. It will be the first meeting between the two players. On the ladies side, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) gets a match on Centre Court for her third round encounter against seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams of the United States.
