CEDAR PARK, TX – The Hamilton Bulldogs scored three, unanswered third period goals in just under a six minute span to defeat the Texas Stars 4-2 in a high-shooting, fast-paced American Hockey League game on Thursday (March 29).
The Stars carried a 2-1 lead into the final period. Travis Morin had given the Texans a 1-0 margin when he scored at 17:34 of the opening period for his 11th of the season. The Bulldogs were stymied by netminder Jake Campbell who made 19 saves in the first 20 minutes. Hamilton netminder Robert Mayer faced only six shots.
Luke Gazdic doubled the Stars lead at 11:12 of the second period with his 10th of the season. Travis Novak’s first goal as a professional hockey player, on a precise cross-slot pass from Ryan Flanigan, put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard just less than two minutes later.
Gabriel Dumont took advantage of a third period power play opportunity to tie the game with 6:09 left in the game. Then, with just 1:16 left to play, Andreas Engqvist sent a pass from behind the Texas net to Joonas Nattinen, who one-timed the puck while tumbling into the crease to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. Mark Mitera sealed the deal for the ‘Dogs with an empty net goal.

The ‘Dogs tested Campbell 39 times in the game, while the Stars sent 30 shots on Mayer’s net. The Bulldogs also extended their perfect penalty killing streak to 22-in-22 with two shorthanded goals in that stretch.
The Bulldogs wrap up their Texas trip on Saturday (March 31) at 8:30 p.m. ET when they take on the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center.
