Green gets off to right start

Team Canada players won all their singles matches Sunday (April 1) at the 2012 Pan American Racquetball Championships in Temuco, Chile, but split their doubles results with the women’s winning and the men’s losing.

Hamilton’s Mike Green won his first match of the tournament, a victory over Daniel Maggi (Argentina), 15-9, 15-10, as did Vincent Gagnon (Montreal), who defeated Miguel Santiago (Puerto Rico), 15-0, 15-6.

On the women’s side, Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg and Frédérique Lambert of Montreal were both winners. Saunders beat Mariana Paredes (Venezuela), 15-5, 15-6, while Lambert defeated Mariana Tobon (Venezuela), 15-7, 15-3.

In women’s doubles, Saunders and Christine Richardson of Regina won their match against Carla Muñoz and Maria Paz Riquelme (Chile), 15-2, 15-7. But on the men’s side, Nathaniel Husulak and Tim Landeryou both of Saskatoon lost their first match to Sebastian Roessler and Santiago Canedo of Chile, 15-11, 10-15, 11-10.

The final day of pool play will determine the seedings for the elimination round that will begin on Wednesday.
