Green smacks down another win

Hamilton’s Mike Green continues his winning ways after three days of play at the 2012 Pan American Racquetball Championships in Temuco, Chile.

Competing In men’s singles, the Canadian champion beat Jose Daniel Ugalde (Ecuador), 15-7, 15-11 on Monday (April 2). He won his opening match on Sunday. Also in men’s singles, Vincent Gagnon (Montreal) defeated Miguel Santiago (Venezuela), 15-4, 15-7.

Team Canada’s doubles team also came away victors on Monday which kept the women’s team unbeaten through the preliminary pool play that will set up the elimination round on Wednesday.

On the women’s side, Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg had two wins over Claudine Garcia of the Dominican Republic as both Saunders and Garcia are playing singles and doubles for their respective countries. Saunders won their singles match, 15-7, 15-9, and she and Christine Richardson (Regina) defeated Garcia and Maria Cespedes, in doubles, 15-6, 15-11.

Frédérique Lambert of Montreal also won her singles match against Maria Jose Vargas (Ecuador), 15-9, 15-11.

The men’s doubles team of Nathaniel Husulak and Tim Landeryou, both of Saskatoon, won their match on Monday against Costa Ricans Ivan Villegas and Bruno Casalvolone.
