Thistles are a pain for McCoys in Renwick opening

DUNDAS – Tobias Whelan scored twice as the Kenora Thistles downed Dundas Real McCoys 5-2 in the opening game of the best-of-three Ontario Hockey Federation Renwick Cup championship Friday (April 6) in the JL Grightmire Arena.

Also scoring for Kenora were Jon Poirier, Tyler Woodisse, and Troy Ilijow.

Cam Watson and Ryan Christie replied for Dundas.

Game two of the series to determine the Eastern Canadian champion, is Saturday (April 7) at 7 p.m., and the third game, if necessary will be played Sunday (April 8) at 2 p.m. All games are in the Grightmire Arena on Market Street in Dundas.

The winner advances to the Allan Cup Tournament for Canada’s senior hockey title.
