The Hamilton Cardinals made their senior Intercounty Baseball League playing debut for 2012 on a winning and losing note.
Visiting the London Majors, the Cards split the twin bill, dropping the opener, 3-2, but rebounding to take the second contest in convincing fashion, 12-0, with a no-hitter.
In the first game, the Majors scored all their runs in the first inning. Cardinals’ starter Matt Martinow surrendered four hits, three of which were doubles. The Cards scored their runs in the top of the third inning.
In game two, Hamilton used a combination of three hits and some poor fielding to score three runs in the top second inning off of London’s Matt Mitro. The visitors extended their lead in the next inning with another run.
Brett van Pelt and Nino Fasulo combined for a no-hitter to split the twin bill.
The Cardinals open the IBL season on Saturday, May 12 as they head to Nelson Park in Burlington to face the Twins. The game will broadcast seen on Cable 14 on Monday (May 14) at noon.
