Burlington will have a strong presence on Canada’s Junior National Team representing the nation at the 2012 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) U-19 World Championship, June 28 – July 8 in Austin, Texas.
Of the first 35 players named to the roster, three are from Burlington. Quarterback Will Finch, running back Mercer Timmis, and receiver Doug Corby made the list announced on the weekend. Finch, a graduate of the Burlington Stampeders and Nelson High School, played last season with the Western University Mustangs. Timmis for the Calgary Dinos while receiver Corby, also a grad of the Stampeders and Nelson’s program, played for Queen’s University.
McMaster Marauder defensive back Keldyn Ahlstedt of Whitby was also chosen for the team.
Head coach Noel Thorpe noted that more than 400 players from across the country participated in try out camps.
Canada won a silver medal at the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship in Canton, Ohio.
