Eight runs in the first three innings carried the Hamilton Cardinals to an 11-1 victory over the Mississauga Majors in on Wednesday (May 2) at Mohawk Sports Park.
A series of wild pitches during the second inning contributed to the early offence for the Cardinals in their Central Ontario Baseball Association home and season opener.
Ryan Magdic was solid at the plate for the Cardinals going two-for-two, driving in one run and scoring another. He singled in the first and third innings.
The Majors couldn’t get anything going with Ian Jordan on the hill. Mississauga managed just two hits off of the Cardinals pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out five during his four innings of work.
Hamilton added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A ground out scored Steven Lemay with the inning’s first run. That was followed up by Cameron McLeod’s single, which plated Josh Tee and George Tsiflikiotis.
Hamilton takes to the road for a game against the Mississauga North Tigers on Monday (May 7) at 8:30 p.m. in River Grove Park.
