The 10th annual CIS East-West Bowl coming up this weekend will have a little more Maroon colouring.
Two additional members of the Vanier Cup champion McMaster Marauders – defensive back Stephen Dennis and offensive lineman Elliot Montag – have been added to the West roster, bringing the number of Marauders in the game to seven.
Players from both East and West are currently in London, preparing for Saturday’s game which will kick-off at 1 p.m. at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the campus of Western University.
Dennis and Montag will join Marauder teammates tackle Matt Sewell, receiver Mike DiCroce, linebacker Ben D’Aguilar, and defensive backs Michael Daly and Joey Cupido, who were all previously selected to participate in the annual showcase of players entering their draft-eligible year of CIS competition.
The participating Marauders will have a familiar face running the sideline as McMaster coach Stef Ptaszek is the head coach for the West side, while Laval’s Glen Constantin is handling the East. Both coaching staffs are made up of other Canadian Interuniversity Sport coaches from across Canada.
The East side is comprised of student-athletes representing universities from the Atlantic and Quebec conferences, as well as from Queen’s, Ottawa and Toronto. The West squad is made up of players from Canada West and from the remaining Ontario University Athletics schools, including McMaster.
The West currently leads the overall series with six wins, although the East has had more recent success emerging victorious in three of the last four East-West games.
The 2012 CIS East-West Bowl is being telecast by Rogers TV on London’s Cable 13, and is being carried on the internet by SSN Canada.
