Rookie Ball Cardinals overcome shaky start to tame Bengals

After their opening day loss of 6-4 to the Mississauga Bengals, the Hamilton Cardinals exploded to defeat the Milton Mets, 19-7, in Central Ontario Baseball Association Rookie Ball play on Thursday (May 10).

The Cardinals found themselves down four runs after the first inning, but their bats came to life at Maplehurst Park in Milton.

Justin DeZoete and Joshua Goodridge both hit home runs and combined for six runs-batted-in. Carson Johnson, Eric Gillis, and Matthew Underwood were stellar at the plate each hitting a triple.

Carson Johnson led the defensive charge making difficult diving plays look easy and firing strikes to first base from short stop and third base. Goodridge made an outstanding catch in right field and Dylan Wardell was like a cat around the mound. Other defensive notables were Joel Palmer and Dawson Matsell on a defence that put in a very solid performance.

The Hamilton Cardinals look forward to their next game in Burlington on Monday, May 14 at Brant Hills Park.
