After losing their first game in the Central Ontario Baseball Association, the Hamilton Cardinal Major Midgets bounced back with a solid team effort to defeat the Burlington Bulls, 13-1, in a mercy Tuesday (May 15) at Heritage Park.
Pitchers David Vanderby (four innings, two hits) and Hayden Waselynchuk (three innings, no hits) along with Justin O’Reilly (one inning, three strikeouts) kept the Bulls at bay allowing only three hits and no earned runs for eight innings.
Several Cards got in the act to supply the offense: Gavin Barnard (one hit, three RBI), Travis Tomlinson (double, one RBI), Vanderby (one hit, two RBI), Adam Prodeus and Braden Johnston each had two hits and one RBI, and Daniel Krasulja had one hit and one RBI.
After the game Coach John Turbutt had this to say about his team: “It was a team effort that won the game with our pitchers throwing consistent strikes, the batters being aggressive at the plate combined with a tight defense. Being a young team they are showing improvement each game they play.”
Next Midget game is Thursday (May 17) at Hamilton’s Bernie Arbour Stadium and game time is 7 p.m. with Niagara Falls visiting.
