The Hamilton Cardinals Major Pee Wees are looking for their first regular season win in Central Ontario Baseball Association play after dropping a 6-3 decision to the Mississauga Twins on Thursday.

Playing their home opener at Mahoney Park, the Cards record fell to 0-2 after winning their lone exhibition game 17-12 against Kitchener.

Thursday’s game was a close affair, going into the sixth inning with the score tied at 2-2. Michael Ssemanda started for the Cards and went six strong innings, giving up two earned runs and three unearned runs from seven hits. Dawson McLaughlin pitched the seventh inning and surrendered one earned run.

Ssemanda was backed up by a stellar defence, with acrobatic catches on fly balls made by Nolan Gallo, Kole Bishop and Ty Whalen with Matt Porkolab, David Candy and Jacob Underwood working the 6-4-3 double play.

Chris Pendlebury drove in two of the Cardinals earned runs with a double in the first and Whalen smashed a triple that reached the fence in left field.
