Mountain Volleyball Club picks up Canada 16U silver

The Mountain Volleyball Club 16-Under girls team won the silver medal at the Canadian National 16U Volleyball Championships held in Toronto.

Seeded in Division 2, the Hamilton team lost its opening match to the Winnipeg Skyline, 25-11, 25-21, but fought back to win the remaining pool matches against Leaside Lightening Red, 25-13, 25-14; the Bathurst New Brunswick DVC, 26-24, 25-22; and the Quebec Condors, 25-11, 25-14.

In the re-seeded power pools, MVC defeated BC Cloverdale 25-21, 19-25, 15-12, and the Winnipeg Vision Ben, 25-17, 25-20.

In the quarter final, MVC defeated Whitby’s DRVC, 25-14, 11-25, 17-15, and in the semi-finals defeated the Victoria B.C. Titans 25-23, 25-21. In the Gold medal match, Aurora Storm ICE won, 25-17, 25-14.

The MVC 16U coaches are Steve Bonazza and Ben Goerzen of St. Catharines. The team’s players are: Stoney Creek’s Hayley Genovy, Madison Lenders, Jenna Mazza-Anthony, and Kiana Mammolite; Glanbrook’s Victoria Golebiowski; Burlington’s Brianna Layard; Hamilton’s Savannah Browne and Katiana Pare; Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Chelsea McShane; St. Catharines’ Erin Harper, Joslyn Bortolussi, and Libby Donevan; and Wellandport’s Kinsley Child.
