Hamilton’s Minor Mosquito Cardinals improved to 5-1 in regular season play in the Central Ontario Baseball Association with back-to-back wins this week.
On Monday (May 21), the Cards were 4-2 victors at home at McQuesten Park against the Mississauga Tigers. The next night, they followed up that decision with a 10-3 win in Oakville.
On Monday, starting pitcher Sawyer Smith went two strong innings surrendering Mississauga’s two runs. Liam Bistoyong pitched the rest of the way and was dominant, shutting the door on the Tigers over 4 innings.
Hamilton went into the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 2-1 with the top of the order coming up. Thomas Matsell led off with a single, followed by a walk to Carter Thomson. Bistoyong hit a deep fly to centre which the outfielder made a great play on and was able to record the out as well as doubling off a runner.
With two out, Nathan Gillis singled to advance Matsell into scoring position. Matt Rosser promptly hit a two-run triple into deep left giving the Cardinals a 3-2 lead and Ethan Cane followed with a run-scoring double.
Bistoyong closed out the game and the game ball went to Rosser.
The Minor Mosquitoes will next meet the Brampton Braves, for the first time this season, with a home game at McQuesten Park on Monday (May 28).
