The Hamilton Major Mosquito 1 Cardinals defeated the Oakville A’s 4-2 in Central Ontario Baseball Association play on Tuesday (May 22) at Mohawk Sports Park. With the win, Hamilton’s record is two wins, a tie and one loss.
Offensively Hamilton was paced by Bryce Arnold, who went 2-for-2 at the plate with singles in the first and fifth innings. He had one run-batted-in and scored one run.
Starter Seth Cabezas got the win, allowing two runs over three innings. He struck out three, walked two and gave up three hits. Reliever Ryan Stepien worked out of 10 tough situations for the Cardinals. He pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed no earned runs on one hit.
Oakville took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. A triple by Jacob Pokocky, plating Thomas Harbor, started the inning off. The scoreboard lit up again for Oakville when Pokocky scored on an RBI double by David Dillman.
The Cardinals posted one run in each of the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings. In the first, a sacrifice fly by Stepien brought Arnold home. Hamilton went up for good in the fifth, scoring one run on an RBI single by Arnold.
This weekend (May 25-27) the Cards are scheduled to compete in the Oakville Invitation Tournament.
