Rookieball Cards defence shuts down Georgetown

Hamilton’s Rookieball Cardinals used a strong defensive effort to score an 11-4 decision over Georgetown in Central Ontario Baseball Association action on Tuesday (May 22).

Contributing to the tight “D” at Mahoney Park were Eric Gillis, making an outstanding catch at second base while tripping over the pitching mound; Matthew Underwood with a great catch in foul territory at third base; and the combined efforts of Dawson Matsell and Matthew Underwood at first base. Matsell at times looked like an out-of-place gymnast making great stretched out catches.

Josh Goodridge also made an outstanding catch on a hard hit ball to centre field.

The Cardinals’ bat were slow to get started but came alive in the fifth inning when the home side scored five runs, Ryan Taylor scored crossed home plate three times in the game and Carson Johnson hammered a double in the last inning to plate two more runs.

The win gives the Rookieball club a 3-3 regular season record.
