Rough start sends Major Peewee Cards crashing

The Hamilton Cardinals Major Peewee team continued its rough start to the 2012 season, losing 10-3 to the Mississauga Tigers on Thursday (May 24) at Mahoney Park. The loss left the Cards with a 1-3 record in Central Ontario Baseball Association play.

Jacob Underwood got the start and gave up all 10 runs – eight earned – in five innings of work. The first four batters scored before Underwood settled down and retired the next nine batters in order.

Kole Bishop-Polmateer came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Dawson McLaughlin went 2-for-4 at the plate, stealing a base and scoring a run. Underwood went 2-for-3, Ben Zwolak was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Darien Kielb had the Cards other RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Corbeth got the win for Mississauga, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and fanning six. He helped his cause at the plate with a pair of doubles, a three-run homer and scoring three runs.

The Cards next action is May 26, an exhibition game against East York.
