Twins continue to struggle in IBL


The visiting Brantford Red Sox stretched their undefeated streak to begin the season to six games as they downed the Burlington Twins 8-3 at Nelson Park in Intercounty Baseball League play. Burlington’s record is 1-6.

Starter Nathan Forer earned the win for the Red Sox, allowing just three hits and three runs – two earned – with six walks and two strikeouts over five innings pitched. Three others wrapped things up on the mound for Brantford, combining to allow just two more hits while dishing five strikeouts.

Terrell Alliman led the Red Sox at the plate with a single and two homers, finishing the night with two runs scored and two RBI. Josh McCurdy also homered and added a single with a run scored and three RBI in the win. Scott Thorman singled and homered with a run scored and two RBI, while Wayne Forman chipped in with a single, double and two runs scored. Jason Gotwalt and Dwayne Bailey each doubled and came in to score for the visitors.

Burlington burned through seven pitchers on the night, but the loss was handed to starter Tyler Wilson, who lasted just 1 2/3 innings and surrendered five hits and five earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Twins (1-6) managed just five hits on the night, which came from five different players in the lineup. Phillip Steer and Adam Cholewka each had an RBI single while Jeff Kosta and Zach Fernandez both singled and scored a run. Alex Ciernik rounded out the Burlington offence with a single.
