Burlington Bulls charge past Cards


Hamilton Mosquito Cardinals fell behind early and were unable to recover, losing 10-3 to the Burlington Bulls in opening round play at the Oakville Invitational Tournament on Friday (May 25).

The Cardinals scattered five hits in the game, but weren’t able to push enough runs across after the Bulls took a 2-0 first inning lead. Luke Stefnitz’s groundout scored one run and a steal of home by Colin Mari produced the second run.

Carter McKnight reached base two times in the game for the Hamilton Cardinals, including a fifth inning triple.

The Hamilton Cardinals scored one run in the top of the third to cut their deficit to three. A passed ball gave the Cardinals life but Seth Cabeza’ fly ball ended the threat.

Burlington answered the Hamilton Cardinals’ top of the inning with four runs in the third. The Bulls scored on an RBI single by Spencer Jamieson, a two-run double by Jordan Heys, and an RBI double by Robert Mannella.

One run in the top of the fifth helped the Hamilton Cardinals close the deficit to 9-2. An RBI single by Bryce Arnold sparked Cardinals’ rally. Ryan Stepien flew out to end the Hamilton Cardinals threat.

Hamilton would push across one run in the top of the sixth, to make the score 10-3.
