Strong showing can’t keep Peewee Cards alive in Oakville

Winning two out of three games at the Oakville Invitation Tournament wasn’t enough to advance the Hamilton Cardinals Minor PeeWees.

Hamilton’s last game on Saturday (May 26) afternoon was an 8-1 win over Mississauga. The Cards opened the tourney on Friday beating the North York Blues, 4-3, before falling 4-2 to the Etobicoke Rangers on Saturday morning. The Cards were eliminated from the tourney on a defensive runs against tiebreaker rule.

Connor Goodes was hot at the plate the entire weekend going 4-for-6 with three singles, a triple, and scoring once. Tommy Thompson had a 3-for-7 weekend with a trio of safeties, three RBI, and scoring once.

Pitcher Sean Pettener recorded the win against the Majors while Ian Jordan would suffer the loss on the hill against the Rangers.

The team will be host to Brampton on Wednesday (May 30) at Mohawk Sports Park when Central Ontario Baseball Association league play resumes. First pitch is 6 p.m.
