Hamilton looking for CANUSA Games competitors


Hamilton 2012 tryouts for the 55th CANUSA Games have started in some sports and will begin shortly for others.

The annual friendly competition between Hamilton and Flint, Michigan involves 15 sports in several age divisions, including adults. The sports which will be featured this year are baseball (boys), basketball, 10-pin bowling, darts flag football (boys and girls), golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, skeet, soccer, softball (girls), swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

The event alternates each year between the Ontario and Michigan cities and this year Flint is the host for the Aug. 10-12, 2012 competitions. Billeting of athletes is one of the Games highlights.

Soccer (Boys & Girls)

Boys Baseball

Boy’s Basketball
Tryouts and practices will be held every Tuesday at Barton Secondary School, 75 Palmer Road, near Upper Gage Avenue. Sessions start on Tuesday, June 5 from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. for 10 and under (2001/2002), 11-under (2000); and 12-under (1999); 7:15 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. for 13 under (1998) and 14 under (1997); 8:30 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. for 15 under (1996) and 16/17 under (1995/94).

Girl’s Basketball
Tryouts and practices will be held every Monday at Barton Secondary School starting on June 4 (except for Aug. 6 which will be moved to Aug. 8 due to civic holiday).

6 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. for 10 under (2001/2002), 11 under (2000), and 12 under (1999); 7:15 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. for 13 under (1998), 14 under (1997); and 8:30 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. for 15 under (1996), and 16/17 under (1995/94).

Golf
Golf is looking for more players 14 and under. The try-out date is set for end of June and first week of July. Adults may only tryout once and they must have a handicap of 10 or less. Players must have a booked tee time with the organizers to play.
