TAMPA, Fla. – Hamilton FC Rage goalkeeper Genevieve Richard has been chosen the W-League’s Player of the Week.
Richard recorded a seven-save shutout as the Rage recorded their first victory against Ottawa on Sunday (May 27), ending the Fury’s 17-game regular season unbeaten streak. Richard also backstopped a 1-0 victory against Rochester on May 23.
Richard’s honour was included in the W-League’s Team of the Week for Week 3 of the 2012 season.
Also highlighting the squad is Virginia Beach striker Esther Anyanwu, who recorded a pair of goals, an assist and nine shots in her side’s 3-1 victory against the Dayton Dutch Lions, and Charlotte Lady Eagles striker Erin Wingo, who tallied a goal and two assists vs. Central SC. Gabrielle Galanti helped the New Jersey Rangers bounce back with a pair of goals in her team’s win against the New York Magic, while D.C. United Women forward Mikaela Howell earned her place on the Team of the Week with a goal, assist and six shots in a 3-0 victory against Northern Virginia.
Howell’s teammate Molly Menchel also earned a spot by leading a D.C. United backline that didn’t allow a shot against the Majestics. Joining her on defense is Seattle’s Victoria Frederick, who assisted on the game-winning goal against Vancouver, and Laval’s Cindy Walsh, who helped her side limit opponents to a single goal in two games.
