Cardinals find success in Ottawa

OTTAWA – The Hamilton Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the second inning and it proved to be enough to grasp their third win of the season, as they defeated the Ottawa Fat Cats 4-2 in the lone game played in the Intercounty Baseball League on Saturday night.

Starter Tim Black earned the win, giving up six hits and one earned run with two walks and six strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Matt Fortuna picked up the save, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings allowing just one hit while issuing one walk.

Colin Porter had a pair of hits and a run scored for the Cardinals (3-7), adding a run scored, while Chike Springer doubled and scored a run. Anthony Rizquez singled and drove in a pair of runs.

Starter Brandon Huffman suffered the loss for the Fat Cats (4-6), giving up four hits and four runs – two earned – with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Eitan Maoz had three hits, while Wade Wilson singled and doubled. Cody Mombourquette doubled, scored and drove in a run. Kevin Dietrich and Matt McGovern also added doubled in the loss.

The Cardinals continue with another game in Ottawa on Sunday (June 2) at 1pm. They will finish a three-day series in Ottawa as the home team with a school-day game on Monday.
