The London Majors took advantage of three Burlington errors and held on for a 2-1 win in the Intercounty Baseball League on Tuesday (June 5). The game was a special school day game which took place at 11 a.m. and was a rather quick affair, taking just over two hours to play.
Starter Jordi Amargos was the winner for the Majors (6-4), allowing just four hits and one earned run with five walks and an impressive 11 strikeouts over eight innings pitched. Mike Henry pitched a hitless and scoreless ninth inning to earn the save, striking out all three batters he faced.
Byron Reichstein had three of the seven London hits, which included two doubles and a single, while Paul LaMantia and Derrick Strazalkswiski also doubled with Strazalkswiski adding an RBI. Alan Cattrysse and Adwin Springer with a single and a run scored were the other Majors to register a hit.
Jeff Davis was the fifth of seven Twins batters and took the loss, allowing two hits and one unearned run over an inning pitched.
The Twins managed just four hits on the day but three were doubles, coming from Jamie Lekas, Peter Bako and Connor Panas. Lekas added the lone RBI for Burlington while Darryl Pui rounded out the Twins offence with a single.
In other games, the Guelph Royals were 11-4 victors over the Barrie Baycats and the Kitchener Panthers edged the Brantford Red Sox 12-10.
