Scott Dickens of Ancaster and Sinead Russell of Burlington were gold medals winners on Sunday (June 3) at the Santa Clara International swimming competition where Canadian Olympic nominees were testing the waters.
Dickens placed first in the men’s 100 metre breaststroke in a time of 1:00.69 to edge New Zealand’s Glenn Snyders and Japan’s Kosuke Kitajima. Snyders was second in 1:01.44 and Kitajima was third in 1:01.56.
Russell’s gold medal finish came in the women’s 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.20. Karin Prinsloo of South Africa was second in 2:11.73 and Barbara Jardin of Montreal third in 2:12.56.
