Cards done in by one bad inning


The London Majors scored four runs in the sixth inning and held on for a 6-2 victory over the host Hamilton Cardinals in one of two games played in the Intercounty Baseball League on Friday night (June 8).

Starter Eric Cordova picked up the win for the Majors (7-4), allowing just two earned runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts over seven innings pitched.

Adwin Springer homered and added a single, finishing with a run scored and three RBI, while Chris Stewart also registered a solo home run. Alan Cattrysse and Cleveland Brownlee each singled and drove in a run with Brownlee also coming in to score. Byron Reichstein singled and scored twice in the win.

Tim Black suffered the loss for the Cardinals (4-10), allowing six earned runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts over the opening 6 2/3 innings.

Chike Springer hit a solo home run in the loss, while Nate Smith and Andrew Jacinto added a pair of hits, with Jacinto scoring a run. Justin Malabanan singled and drove in a run while Chris Redfern singled and doubled for the home side at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

In the other game, the Ottawa Fat Cats were 12-4 winners over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
