Genevieve Richard delivered another shut out performance Wednesday night (June 6) as Hamilton FC Rage traveled to Aquinas Institute in Rochester and came away with a 2-0 victory.
Christina Thornton netted the winning goal early in the first half of the United Soccer Leagues’ W-League contest. Thornton beat Ravens’ keeper Jessica Sanderson at the 22 minute mark for her second counter of the season. Olivia Colosimo earned an assist on the goal.
Hamilton’s second goal came at the 54 minute mark in the second half. Chiara Grecco, who had three shots during the game, notched the goal for HFC, her first of the current campaign. Olivia Colosimo and Diamond Simpson also registered shots in the winning effort.
Hamilton has now blanked its opponents in four of five games this season. Earlier this season, Richard was named the USL W-League’s Player of the Week.
The victory was the Rage’s third and their record of 3-1-1 ties them in points for first place with the Toronto Lady Lynx. Each team has ten points but the Rage has played one less game. The Rochester Ravens remain winless after six games.
Hamilton now has an extended break with their next match scheduled in 10 days. HFC will welcome the Laval Comets to Ron Joyce Stadium on Sunday, June 17 at 4 p.m. After four games the Comets have won two and tied two.
