When the Canadian Senior Men’s Rugby team hits the pitch for the second game of its summer series in Toronto, it will have a good dose of McMaster maroon representing Team Canada.
Four former or current Marauders players will be in the starting line-up when the Canadian side tackles Italy’s national team at BMO Field on Friday (June 15).
Along with team captain Aaron Carpenter, Marauder alumni Mike Pletch and Mike Scholz, and current McMaster captain Tyler Ardron will be in the starting 15 versus the Italians.
“This is a very proud day for Marauder Rugby, to have four of the 15 starters on our national team,” beamed McMaster coach Phil White. “Our goal is always to try and develop our players to their maximum potential and we have been very fortunate to have placed a number of players on various national teams.”
The match with Italy is the second of three that Team Canada is playing this summer, and game time at BMO Field is 7 p.m.
Last week the Canadian side defeated the USA, 28-25, with Carpenter scoring the winning try and being named Man of the Match in his first outing as Canada’s team captain. Team Canada wraps up its summer series playing Georgia on June 23 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C.
The Marauders begins their Ontario University Athletics season on Wednesday, Sept 5 against Queens at 3 p.m. at McMaster.
