Ryan Magdic, who had a hot bat in a weekend tournament, powered the AAA Minor Peewee Hamilton Cardinals to a 9-6 win over the Mississauga Bengals on Monday (June 18) at River Grove Park.
Magdic had four RBI in the Central Ontario Baseball Association. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the seventh.
Connor Goodes got the win for Hamilton allowing two runs over four innings. He struck out three, walked five and limited the Bengals to one hit.
Hamilton never trailed after scoring three runs in the fourth on Magdic’s double, a sacrifice fly by Sean Pettener, and an RBI single by Joel Wallace.
One Bengal runner crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fifth, making the score 3-1. A walk by Michael Bonora fueled a Bengals’ comeback but Goodes ended the inning by getting Luke Gomes to fly out.
Hamilton got three-run rallies in the sixth and seventh innings. In the 6th, Hamilton scored on a groundout by Magdic, who plated Cameron McLeod.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the sixth, the Bengals faced a 6-2 deficit. A fielder’s choice started a Bengals rally but Goodes got Matthew MacDougall to fly out to end the inning.
Hamilton built upon its lead with three runs in the seventh. Josh Tee’s single got things going, bringing home Ben Woodhouse. That was followed up by Magdic’s single, scoring Jordan Simpson and McLeod.
After pushing across four runs in the bottom of the seventh the Bengals faced a 9-6 deficit. A hit batter, an error, and a two-run double by Joel Bennamin gave the Bengals life until George Tsiflikiotis got Jackson Carrol to fly out to end the game.
