Cards let lead slip away in loss to Oakville

The Hamilton Cardinals Major Mosquitos scattered seven hits on Wednesday (June 20) and couldn’t push enough runs across, losing 14-4 to Oakville A’s at West Oak Trails.

The Cardinals’ Seth Cabezas got on base two times in the Central Ontario Baseball Association game, scoring twice with one RBI. He tripled in the third inning.

Oakville A’s’ Jacob Pokocky, Matt Tani, Dasan Brown and Thomas Harbor combined for eight hits and six RBI.

The top of the first saw Hamilton take a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals got things going when Ryan Stepien singled. Jack Iannuzzi singled, scoring Cabezas and Stepien.

Oakville took the lead in the second, scoring six runs on an error, a sacrifice fly by David Dillman, an RBI single by Daniel Freeman, and a hit batsman.

After pushing across two runs in the top of the third, the Cardinals were down 8-4. An RBI triple by Cabezas and an RBI single by Stepien started a Hamilton rally but Iannuzzi grounded out to end the threat.

The A’s added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Mosquitos are now 3-6-2 on the season and will play in a tournament in Richmond Hill this weekend.
