Fats Cats have easy time with Twins


The Ottawa Fat Cats scored three first-inning runs and never looked back, beating the visiting Burlington Twins 11-2 in a senior Intercounty Baseball League game on Saturday (June 23).

The Fat Cats (11-11) built up an 8-0 lead before the Twins (6-11) got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning.

Matt McGovern led the Fat Cats with three hits and two RBIs while Jason Coker and Eitan Maoz each added two hits and two ribbies. Joe Stone and Mark Charette also had two hits each.

Peter Bako had two hits for Burlington.

Brandon Huffman (4-2) picked up the win for Ottawa, allowing four hits in seven innings with two walks and nine strikeouts. Reliever Danny Desclouds pitched the final two innings, allowing both runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Burlington starter Matthew St. Kitts (1-3) took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Burlington was outhit 15-7 and committed four errors to Ottawa’s two.

The two teams were scheduled to play again on Sunday (June 24).
