The Ottawa Fat Cats swept the visiting Burlington Twins with two, one-run games Sunday (June 24) at Ottawa Stadium.
In the first game, the Fat Cats built a 4-1 lead and managed to hang on for a 4-3 victory. Each team mustered just six hits during the seven inning senior Intercounty Baseball League contest.
James Amelotte earned the win, allowing six hits on three runs – two earned – with one walk and four strikeouts over the opening five innings. Brett Sabourin came on for the final two innings and picked up the save, striking out two.
Eitan Maoz doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Fat Cats, while Jason Coker had a pair of singles and a run scored in the win. Kevin Dietrich doubled and scored a run, while Cody Mombourquette and Brandon Huffman each singled and came in to score.
Connor Smith was dealt the loss, pitching all six innings and allowing six hits and four runs – three earned – with two strikeouts.
Phil Steer had a single and a double in the loss, while Darryl Pui singled, scored and picked up an RBI. Peter Bako singled and scored a run while Greg Densem had the other Twins’ RBI.
In the second game, the Fat Cats scored single runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to rally to a 3-2 win and finish the Sunday sweep of the Twins.
Starter Matt Hummel was the winner for Ottawa (13-11), lasting 6 1/3 innings and giving up just seven hits with two runs – one earned – with one walk and four strikeouts before making way for Josh Soffer, who picked up the save by recording the final two outs.
Kevin Dietrich homered in the win, while Eitan Maoz doubled and scored a run. Jason Coker singled and drove in a run, while Joe Stone and Chris Latimer each picked up a hit with Latimer adding a run scored. Brandon Huffman picked up the other Ottawa RBI.
Kyle Bolton came on in relief of starter Ryan Noack and took the loss, allowing one run on one hit with one walk while only being able to register a single out. Two other relievers finished up for the Twins (6-13).
Jeff Kosta singled and doubled with a run scored in the loss, while Phil Steer had a pair of singles for the visitors. Zach Elbirt singled and came in to score while Pater Bako and Adam Cholewka both singled. Jamie Lekas added the other Burlington RBI.
