Rage shut out by Fury in W-League

Hamilton Rage are now winless in their last four games, after dropping a 3-0 decision to Ottawa in the W-League of the United Soccer Leagues.

In their previous meeting, Hamilton came away with a 2-0 win.

The loss left Hamilton in fifth place in the women’s league with a record of three wins, four losses and two ties. The Fury top the Central Division with 24 points from eight victories and one setback. Ottawa has won seven straight games.

Ottawa was all over the field in the early part of the game and took an early two goal early. Courtney Wetzel scored the first Fury goal in the fifth minute followed by a second goal 15 minutes later.

It looked as though Ottawa had added a third goal in the 75th minute but the shot by Katie Ryan was deemed offside. However, the Fury added a third marker in the final minutes.

HFC had a tough time getting the ball to the net in the match and only managed three shots on goal to the Fury’s 12.

Christina Thornton had two shots for Hamilton and Chiara Greco had the other. Genevieve Richard had seven saves in the match. All of the starting 11 for Hamilton played for the full 90 minutes.

The loss was the second straight for the team after starting their season winning three of their first five games.

The Rage have three games remaining in the regular schedule, two of which will be played at home. They return home to Ron Joyce Stadium on Sunday, July 8 at 1 p.m. when the Quebec City Amiral visit.
