Rookie Cardinals keep Tigers leashed


The Hamilton Cardinals Rookie Ball squad picked up its sixth win of the season, against four losses, defeating the Mississauga Tigers, 7-2, on Tuesday (July 3).

Carson Johnson got the bats rolling in the fifth inning with a leadoff triple in the Central Ontario Baseball Association contest. He went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Zack Woodworth went 2-for-3, with two RBI and scored a run. Clean-up hitter Matthew Underwood was 1-for-3, had 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

On the defensive side, Eric Gillis was outstanding in right field, making all three outs in the fifth inning, including a leaping catch. Dylan Wardell was solid on the pitching mound, making a great catch on a line drive up the middle.

Joel Palmer made a beautiful sliding grab on a ground ball and completed the play throwing a strike to first to end the game.
