Hamilton volleyball club finds silver in sand

Mountain Volleyball Club isn’t letting the summer get in the way playing.

Various club members are training at the Provincial Team High Performance Centre; travelling to South Korea to represent Hamilton at the International Children’s Games; or playing on the Ontario Volleyball Association Beach circuit.

MVC announced its 2012 Award of Excellence winners. presented by the OVA to athletes who demonstrated on and off court, leadership, sportsmanship and playing ability:

13-Under – Zofia Olejarz of Dundas, a member of the MVC silver medallist team at the 13U provincial championships. Zofia is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington and Denis Levesque of Hamilton.

14U – Nicole Roberge of Ancaster is coached by Jos Nederveen of Dundas, Ashley Muir of Hamilton, Jerry Olejarz of Dundas, and Laurie Fernandez of Hamilton Mountain.

15U – Charlotte Rose of Dundas, a member of the MVC team that won a silver medal at 15U provincials followed by a gold medal at the 15U Canadian Open Championships. Rose is coached by Levesque, Meghan Boyle of Ancaster, and Michael Hall of Hamilton.

MVC 16U – Victoria Golebiowski of Glanbrook, a member of the 16U silver medallist team at the Canadian Open Championships. She is coached by Steve Bonazza and Ben Goerzen of St. Catharines.

Congratulations to the MVC 17U team’s Caitlyn Genovy of Stoney Creek, who was invited to attend the week long OVA Athlete Development High Performance Centre in July which identifies Provincial Team athletes. A member of the MVC 17U team that won a gold medal at the Canadian Open Championships, Caitlin is coached by Nederveen, Mike Fuchs of Glanbrook, and Fernandez.

MVC 15U athletes will also be representing Hamilton at the upcoming International Children’s Games in Daegu, South Korea starting July 12th. The ICG team will include Roses, Jordan Koslowski of Hamilton, Kate Kalenchuk of Hamilton, Madison Rowe of Hamilton, Natasha Burns of Hamilton, and alternate Rachel Doric of Waterdown.

Mountain Beach Volleyball hit the sand courts with the team of Khloe Mattiozzi of Hamilton and Christina Stratford of Burlington. They won a Silver Medal in the 12U Championship Division in their first ever OVA Beach Volleyball Tournament at Ashbridges Bay, Toronto in early June.
