Mosquito Cards flex their muscles

The Hamilton Cardinals Major Moquitos who have a regular season record of four wins and seven losses in the Central Ontario Baseball Association, put up five straight victories in a tournament in Hamilton on the weekend. Unfortunately, the Cards lost the championship game.

To reach the final, the Cards beat Milton, 11-2; Riverside, 4-2; Welland, 22-0; Coronna, 15-2; and Guelph, 7-4. Oakville finally stopped the cards, 17-9, in the title deciding game.

Hamilton’s march to the championship final started on Friday with the win over Milton. Hamilton scored five runs in the first two innings for a quick start. RBI singles by Joshua Palmer, Alex Mitton, Carter McKnight, and Michael Langdon in the first inning and an RBI base hit by Ryan Stepien in the second inning fuelled the Cardinals’ offense early.

Stepien racked up three RBI on two hits for Hamilton while six Cardinals hitters combined for 13 hits, eight RBI and 11 runs scored.

The Cardinals added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Seth Cabezas started the inning with a double, plating Palmer. That was followed by Stepien’s two-run blast, scoring Cabezas.
