Twins come close to upsetting league leaders

The visiting Burlington Twins came within a run of making it a tie game in the ninth inning, but the Brantford Red Sox held on for a 7-6 win at Arnold Anderson Stadium on Thursday (July 19).

Brian Sikorski was the winning pitcher for the Red Sox (27-5), allowing five runs – four earned – on 11 hits with one walk and four strikeouts over the first five innings of the senior Intercounty Baseball League game. Three others finished up for Brantford, including closer Stefan Strecker, who picked up the save, giving up just one earned run on one hit over the ninth inning.

Scott Thorman singled and added his 11th home run of the season, finishing with a pair of runs scored and two RBI for the league leading Red Sox. Tyler Burnell singled and doubled and scored twice, while Lee Delfino doubled and drove in a pair, scoring one. Terrell Alliman singled and scored, and Wayne Forman also added a hit. Hyung Cho scored and picked up an RBI while Jason Gotwalt also drove in a run.

Burlington starter Kyle Bolton was the loser, allowing seven runs – four earned – on seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts, lasting five innings. Alex Gale pitched the final three innings for the visitors, issuing two walks. The Twins are now 11-19 on the season but have the final playoff position.

Peter Bako had a three-hit night with a double and two singles, an RBI and a run scored, while Darryl Pui had three singles and a run scored in the loss. Jeff MacLeod homered and drove in three runs, while Zach Elbirt singled twice and scored. Branson Joseph and Kyle Morton each singled with an RBI, while Mattingly Romanin and Greg Densem singled and scored.
