Twins run out of gas in late inning

Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Guelph Royals scored six runs to earn a 12-8 win over the Burlington Twins in Intercounty Baseball League play on Friday (July 20).

The win gives the Royals possession of second place in the IBL standings with a 20-15 record. It also guarantees the Twins will finish eighth in the standings and face the Brantford Red Sox in the lone matchup to be solidified for the first round of the playoffs.

Marc Anthony Clauser earned the win for Guelph in relief of starter Roberto Suppa. He allowed two earned runs on four hits with two walks over 2 1/3 innings pitched.

Frankie Hare and Sean Reilly each hit two-run home runs and finished with three runs scored in the win, while Jeremy Ware had a pair of hits with three runs scored. Tyler Wheeler doubled and drove in a pair, scoring one, and Justin Interisano had a hit and three RBI in the win. Chris Robinson had a pair of hits, and Mirek Sharp singled and scored a run.

Alex Gale was the third of three Burlington pitchers on the night and took the loss, allowing six runs – five earned – on four hits with two walks and one strikeout over the final inning.

Brandon Joseph tripled and homered finishing with three RBI and two runs scored. Adam Cholewka had two hits, two RBI and a run scored while Jamie Lekas doubled and added an RBI. Jeff Kosta singled and doubled with a run scored, while Connor Panas had a pair of hits and run scored. Ryan Asis singled and scored two runs in the loss.
