Rookie Ball Cards have no shortage of power

The Hamilton Rookie Ball Cardinals took their seventh game in a row, downing the Mississauga Bengals, 9-1. During the past seven games, the Cardinals have only allowed 21 runs while scoring 77 in Central Ontario Baseball Association play to improve their record to 12-6.

The Cards stellar defense was evident in the Thursday (July 19) win when it held the Bengals to the lone run. The game’s highlight was a great throw from short stop Carson Johnson to a catcher Zack Woodworth, who blocked the plate and laid a tag on the advancing runner for a critical out.

At the plate, the bats continued to heat up. Myles Robinson was red hot going 3-for-3 and scored two runs. Johnson used a 30-year-old piece of lumber and went 3-for-3, scoring two runs with one RBI. Matthew Underwood went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and scored a run. Eric Gillis had a 2-for-3 night at the plate and drove in one run.
