A 15-run explosion in the fourth inning vaulted the Hamilton Cardinals Major Mosquitos to a 23-2 win over the Brampton Braves at Mohawk Sports Park on Tuesday (July 24).
Ryan Stepien had two extra-base hits for the Cardinals who picked up their seventh win of the season in Central Ontario Baseball Association play. He tripled in the first and third innings and singled in the fourth inning. The Cards are now 7-10-3 on the season.
Nine Hamilton batters combined for 24 hits and 19 RBI.
In the top of the first, the Braves grabbed a 2-0 lead. A triple by Vishal Anand, scoring Joel Connors while Anand scored on a groundout by Adrian Alting-mees.
But that lead was short-lived as the Cardinals scored three runs on an RBI single by Michael Langdon and an RBI triple by Stepien, who also stole home in the hosts half of the inning.
The Cardinals added five more runs in the bottom of the third. Jack Iannuzzi kicked things off with a triple, bringing home Stepien. That was followed up by Walker McKelvey’s single, plating Iannuzzi.
