Racquetball Canada goes Green

Two local players have been named to Racquetball Canada’s National and National Development teams for the 2012-13 season. The selections were based on performances at the National Championships and two National Team selection events last season.

Highlighting the men’s National Team is the current champion, Mike Green of Burlington. Joining him will be Ancaster’s Eric Desrocher. Also on the men’s team are Vincent Gagnon (Montreal), Kris Odegard (Saskatoon), Tim Landeryou (Saskatoon), and Nathaniel Husulak (Saskatoon).

The women’s team is led by current champion Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg. She is joined by Frederique Lambert (Montreal), Josée Grand‘Maître (Longueuil, Que.), Brandi Jacobson Prentice (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.), Christine Richardson (Regina), and Michèle Morissette (Baie Comeau, Que.).

The last three U18 Boys Champions are on the men’s National Development Team, including the 2012 champion Coby Iwaasa of Lethbridge, Alta., the 2011 champion Kurtis Cullen of Brandon, Man. and the 2010 champion Pedro Castro of Brossard, Que. Two Saskatoon players, James Landeryou and Barret Husulak, round out the team.

Three juniors are on the women’s National Development Team, although Brittany Nelson of Windsor is at the end of her junior eligibility and will play her last junior tournament later this year at the World Junior Racquetball Championships in Los Angeles in November. Zoe Hanson of Regina will be Nelson’s doubles partner in Los Angeles and Danielle Drury of Saskatoon will also be there.

The other women’s National Development Team members are Brigitte Richard (Saint Basile Le Grand, Que.) and Valerie Fallu (Brossard, Que.).

All these players will be in action next season at Racquetball Canada’s selection events. Racquetball Canada’s first National Team Selection Event of the 2012-13 season will be held in Kelowna, B.C. from Nov. 23-25. The second Selection Event will be in Brossard, Que. from Feb. 1-3. The 2012-13 season will end with the 2013 Canadian National Racquetball Championships in Langley, B.C. May 19-25, 2013.
