Oakville club, members rule Canadian waters


Mack Darragh of Oakville, and Sherry Liu of New Westminster, B.C., each collected their fourth wins on Sunday (July 29) at the age group nationals swimming competition which concluded at the Talisman Centre.

In the men’s 200 individual medley in the 17-18 age group, Darragh clocked 2:05.84 finishing ahead of Russell Wood of Calgary who was vying for his fifth victory this week. Darragh also won the 200 breaststroke on Saturday, the 200 butterfly on Friday and the 400 IM on Thursday.

In the women’s 400 freestyle in the 16-18 age group, Liu notched the win by a big margin finishing in 4:19.05. She also took the 200, 800 and 1,500 freestyles this week.

Other highlights in women’s competition included a meet high sixth gold for Sydney Pickrem of Halifax in the age 15 group and a fifth victory for Mary-Sophie Harvey of Trois-Rivieres, Que., in the age 12 group.

On the men’s side, Bryce Kwicien-Delaney of Oakville was the only other swimmer to hit the four win mark placing first in the 50 butterfly. Luke Reilly earned a third win in the 16 age group with a victory in the 200 IM as did James Dergousoff of North Vancouver in the age 15 200 IM and Skyeler Kerr in the age 12 group, also in the 200 IM.

In the combined team standings, Oakville Aquatic Club placed first with 2,287.5 points, finishing ahead of Calgary’s Cascade Swim Club and Edmonton’s Olympian Swim Club.
