Cards tame Bengals in Mosquito ball

The Hamilton Cardinals AAA Major Mosquito team outlasted the Mississauga Bengals on Tuesday (July 31) after four lead changes, squeaking out an 8-4 win at Mohawk Sports Park.

The Cardinals took the lead in the fourth inning and held on for the Central Ontario Baseball Association victory. A two-run triple by Seth Cabezas off AJ Karosas to plate Joshua Palmer and Bryce Arnold highlighted the inning.

Ryan Stepien had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the second and fifth innings to complement a single in the fourth.

The Bengals’ lineup had no answer for Palmer. Mississauga managed just one hit off of the pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out seven in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Palmer, Stepien, Cabezas and Walker McKelvey helped lead the Hamilton Cardinals to the victory by combining for nine hits and four RBI.

The top of the second saw Mississauga take an early 1-0 lead, but Hamilton answered with a run in the second. The Cardinals scored on an RBI single by Michael Langdon. The Bengals scored two runs in the top of the seventh but the Cardinals closed the game out when Arnold got Karosas to fly out.
