Chalmers pulls ahead at Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship


Jayne Chalmers of Mount Hope carded a one-over par 72 on Wednesday (Aug. 22) to take the lead at the Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur golf championship Galt Country Club in Cambridge.

Chalmers, a member at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, added today’s score to her opening round 76 for an overall total of 148 (+6), enough for a five-stroke lead over the field.

Two-time Ontario Women’s Match Play champion (2005, 2006) Kristy McLaughlin of Wasaga Beach slipped into second place after carding a seven-over 78. The Batteaux Creek Golf Club member sits in runner up position with a two-day total of 153, +11.

Chalmers’ Hamilton clubmate Jennifer Lochhead of Ancaster is six strokes back in third place at 12 over par with a total score of 154 (78-76) while defending champion Patricia Hogeboom of Kingston is tied for fourth place at +13 alongside Etobicoke’s Marion Reid.

The Investors Group Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur championship is contested annually and is open to female golfers age 25 and over. First contested in 1989, the championship trophy is named after Canadian and Ontario Golf Hall of Fame member Mary Ann Hayward, who has captured the title fourteen times.
