Canada defeated Curacao 25-13, 25-7, 25-22 on Tuesday (Aug. 28) to improve to 2-0 in Pool B of the NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental volleyball championship.
Canada concludes pool play against Puerto Rico.
Canada was led by Jarrid Michael Ireland’s 10 points, while Ryley Brendan Barnes added nine points. Every Canadian except libero Tyler Scott Koslowsky, who had 10 digs and 10 excellent receptions, scored at least one point in the match. McMaster Marauder Dan Groenveld of Welland is a member of the team.
Canada produced a 7-1 ace advantage and a 7-2 block advantage in the victory. The victors limited their errors to 14 for the match, while Curacao totaled 24 errors.
The NORCECA (North America, Central American and Caribbean) event, which is held bi-annually, will qualify three teams from the confederation for the 2013 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship. Canada hosted the previous U21 NORCECA event in 2010 and won the silver medal losing to the U.S., in the final. The Canadians have won medals at five of the seven editions of the tournament including the last three.
