McMaster Marauder end Ben D’Aguilar is this week’s Ontario University Athletics defensive player of the week.
The Hamilton native was a dominant force along the front four for the Marauders in their 50-9 season opening win over Guelph. The fourth-year defensive end had five solo tackles and three sacks, and was a constant source of pressure on the Gryphon quarterbacks all day.
The offensive honour goes to Austin Kennedy of the Windsor Lancers.
The Windsor-product quarterback was deadly from behind centre, going 31-of-41 with six touchdowns, tying a team record for most passing touchdowns in a single game. Kennedy also broke two of his own records, passing for 482 yards
On special teams, Queen’s kicker Dillon Wamsley, gets the nod.
The London native had an outstanding rookie debut on opening day, as the No. 6 Queen’s Gaels defeated the York Lions, 48-13. He went 3-for-3 on field goals, including a 48-yarder in the first quarter, and finished with 14 points on the day. He averaged 36.3 yards on nine punts, including two that went more than 50 yards. He also averaged 52.5 yards on kickoffs, with three traveling over 60 yards.
