Toronto – The McMaster women’s rugby team tamed the York Lions, 17-15, on Sunday (Sept. 9) in Ontario University Athletics play. The win evened the Marauders record at 1-1.
McMaster got off to an early lead thanks to second-year Emily Ricketts. She scored the first two tries of the game, but the Marauders couldn’t were unable to make the converts.
Rookie Stephanie Black also made an impact in McMaster’s game against the Lions. The first-year player scored her first try as a Marauder, and would make the convert for a large 17-0 lead.
Three different Lions – Sarah Galati, Aisan Fazeli and Shari Stefaniuk – scored tries before the half was over. No converts were made on the tries.
The second half was scoreless.
The Marauders first home game is set for Saturday, Sept. 15, against the Trent Excalibur at 1 p.m.
